The significance of the quality of catalysts for oil refinery can’t be emphasized too strongly.

Having a price incomparably smaller than total cost of final refinery product, low quality catalyst may lead to long term production shutdown and consequently to multimillion losses.

By now, Gazprom Neft’s Omsk Refinery has launched production of new cat cracking catalysts of the Avantgarde series.

Currently, Gazprom Neft is the only oil company in the CIS countries running its own manufacturing of  cat cracking catalysts. The «Avantgarde» catalysts are already used for cat cracking units at the Omsk Refinery.

All catalysts inevitably deactivate during operation and a need for their regeneration arises. The main reason of deactivation is carbon deposits. For regeneration purposes, oxidative removal of carbon deposits is widely used, but oxidative regeneration of modern highly active hydrotreating catalysts allows for recovering of their activity only to the level of 85%. At the moment, 85% reactivation is not enough for re-use of catalysts for production of sweet stock meeting the EURO IV and EURO V standards for sulfur content. Thereby, there is a need for development of modern deep hydrotreating catalyst regeneration processes which allow for rejuvenation up to 90-95% and more.

Oil coke and sulfur are burned out during regeneration and the catalyst activity is partially recovered due to the fact that part of active components of the catalyst also needs recovery. The patented Excel catalyst rejuvenation technology developed by Porocel allows for recovering of catalytic activity to the level significantly higher than 90% and for Type I catalysts – higher than 100%.
